Rebooting After the Upgrade
Make a mental checklist:
Have I synchronized to the latest sources?
Have I done a buildworld?
Did I compile a new kernel?
Did the new kernel boot?
Have I done an installworld?
Do utilities such as ps and top work?
Is /etc merged to my satisfaction?
If you can say “yes” to all of these, you're ready to reboot.
# reboot
When the system comes back up into multiuser mode, check ps and top again just to make sure everything's synchronized. Finally, run uname -a to see if you agree with the kernel version:
# uname -a FreeBSD stripes.somewhere.com 4.3-STABLE FreeBSD 4.3-STABLE #0: Wed Jan 31 18:45:43 PST 2001 frank@somewhere.com:/usr/src/sys/compile/CUSTOM ...
