In this part . . .
Not every fraud case involves a business. Many times, forensic accountants are asked to help individuals who are trying to shield themselves against fraudsters — or to recuperate losses after a fraud has been committed.
In this part, we start with perhaps the most personal type of fraud investigation: one in which someone hires the forensic accountant to search for a spouse’s assets (which are sometimes ingeniously hidden!) in the midst of divorce. We continue with a discussion of how forensic accountants can help elderly people (and their families) protect themselves from fraud against their estates and trusts. And we conclude this part with a chapter about the common (and sometimes shockingly easy) ways that fraudsters try to separate homeowners from their most precious asset.
