I knew better than to try to convince the guys in Human Resources that our proposal for increased minority hiring would help the company in the long run. All I had to do was walk into that meeting room and our hopes were dead. Instead, I sent Bob to represent our team. He wore a suit and was our Ivy League recruiter. He didn’t have the reputation for being a “bleeding heart” like the rest of us. He could speak their language. They listened and our proposal was accepted, no problem.
