GERDA TARO

The Brave War Photographer

1910 TO 1937

Gerda Taro and her partner, Robert Capa, were actually born as Gerta Pohorylle and Endre Friedmann. They both adopted aliases to escape political intolerance toward Jewish people in the 1930s. She courageously rode with soldiers to take photos of wartime conflict and, tragically, was the first woman who died doing this brave task while covering the Spanish Civil War. She was just 26 years old.
