ANNA ATKINS
The Publishing Pioneer
1799 TO 1871
Anna Atkins was an artist, botanist (someone who studies plants), and photography pioneer. She was one of the first women to ever take photos! Her scientist father encouraged her to study plants, and she captured their images using cyanotype prints (similar to the photogram process described on page 21). Her book on plants is the first book ever published featuring photographic images!
