Chapter 9. Data
The Data menu provides several useful options for working with large data lists. This menu provides various methods for locating the desired data:
- Sort
Sorts the data based upon the values within one or two columns. When using this option you still see all of the data, it is just reorganized based upon the way you decide to sort (Ascending or Descending, based upon the selected column).
- Filter
Hides the values that do not meet the specified criteria. For example, you may only want to see the sales in Texas and Florida. The values that are hidden are still used within formulas.
- Subtotals
Subtotals are added to the data list to provide a better description of the information. For example, you may want to subtotal the sales for each territory.
- Group and Outline
Groups together related values so that they can be expanded and collapsed. For example, you could group the monthly sales for Texas with the annual total.
- PivotTable and PivotChart Report
Creates a dynamic summary of the selected cell values. You can change the view of the PivotChart by selecting a different data value.
If you have a chart selected the Data menu will be replaced with the Chart menu. For more information refer to Chapter 10.
