The director and dramaturg are meeting to talk about the characters in the play and their relationship to the historical people on whom they are based. This has been a point of concern for the production team as they want to be sure to be true to the source material while at the same time giving actors and designers creative license with character and aesthetic. The director is concerned that too much connection to the “real life” people will cause the actors to create imitations or caricatures in an attempt to recreate them.
