Multitalented businesswoman Folorunso Alakija has left her mark on industries as diverse as fashion, print, and oil. A committed Christian, she is known for her philanthropic work, particularly in her native Nigeria.
Folorunso Alakija was born in Ikorodu, Lagos State, in 1951, one of 52 children from her father’s eight marriages. Educated in the UK and Nigeria, Alakija started out as an executive secretary in the banking industry.
