1Named after the French analyst and mathematical physicist, Baron de Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier (1768-1830). While investigating heat conduction problems, he developed the theory of Fourier series and used it first in his memorable work Theorie Analytique de la Chaleur. This initiated a great mathematical activity and led to the development of a new branch of mathematics called Fourier Analysis.
