Thermal balance in the urban environment

The thermal balance in the urban environment differs substantially from that of rural areas. The anthropogenic heat released by cars and combustion systems, the higher amounts of solar radiation stored and the blockage of the emitted infrared radiation by urban canyons makes the global thermal balance more positive and contributes to the warming of the environment.
