THE POWER AND PITFALLS OF SIMPLICITY

The old adage “keep it simple stupid” (or KISS, for short) applies just as much, if not more so, to designing and administering employee surveys. Employees don’t wake up in the morning wanting to be surveyed. Managers don’t dream of the data they are going to receive from their employees.

Employee surveys typically measure many different types of constructs (sets of questions that together measure a single concept), and the results have to be communicated back to stakeholders who are very busy and often demand simple messages to focus and act on.
