The role of various osmotically active compound accumulations in plant resistance to low and high temperatures, drought, and salinity is considered. Attention is paid to the specific features of definite compound accumulation under different stresses, their involvement in the maintenance of the redox balance in the cells, and their function as signaling molecules.
