Abstract
An information center (IC) is an organization which has the responsibility of collecting, analyzing, and organizing information in a specific area, on the one hand, and on the other, speedy retrieval and dissemination of required information to the users. The documentation/ICs may be categorized on the basis of their ownership, specialization, and level. There are also some ICs which are not considered as ICs or documentation centers in the traditional sense because of peculiarities in the type of information handled by them or the peculiarities of their functions, viz., data center, data bank, information analysis center, information referral center, and information clearing house.
