Having considered in the previous chapter some areas where driving automation can help compensate for human performance, we now focus on how it might best achieve that. The interface between human and automation is crucial to ensure the benefits are maximised while avoiding any negative impacts for driver workload or distraction, and we argue a user-centred approach to interface design is essential.
