Part III
Experimenting with Subject Matter
In this part . . .
After you know what you want to draw, it’s time to choose a subject. Essentially, anything you can think of or imagine can make a good subject for a drawing. Having so many potential options may be a little overwhelming at first, but don’t worry! You don’t have to choose just one. Part III is all about experimenting with different drawing subjects. Each chapter is an exploration of one major category of subject matter from still lifes and landscapes to animals and people.
If you’re just getting started with drawing, you owe it to yourself to try lots of different drawing subjects. Every new drawing subject holds a new way for you to think about the way drawing works. If you’ve been drawing for a while, Part III may offer you some new insight into subjects you already know, or it may introduce you to some subjects you’ve never explored before. Regardless, you can work through all the chapters in this part, or just select one or two.
