Objective

To explore the use of light to create an acting space.

Setting

Four blocks of seating surround a rectangular acting area (Figure P.6).

Rig

A maximum of 20 lighting instruments may be hung anywhere on the lighting grid which extends over the acting and seating areas. Initially these should be Fresnels or PCs, but profiles may be tried after successful discovery of basic principles.

Cue synopsis

Q1. Actors should be lit everywhere within the area enclosed by the broken line.

Contraction and expansion

If possible, the number of available lights should not be reduced below 16. This project may be extended by pursuing warm and cool toning. This is still possible within the nominated 20 lighting ...
