As described in Chapter 2, the integrity of direct selling has been well-established, dating back to the earliest forms of direct-to-consumer marketing exchanges. Currently, this business model in the United States has the oversight of the Direct Selling Association (DSA) with formalized compliance requirements and a code of ethics, and the business model has ongoing monitoring by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) National Programs and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
