So you’ve second shot a couple weddings (that is, worked as a backup photographer), and maybe even photographed a few on your own, and you’ve decided that going into wedding photography is definitely the career path you want to take. After you have made this decision, it’s time to sit down and think through the logistics of actually starting a small business. For many photographers at the beginning of their careers, the thought of quitting their full-time jobs and going into business for themselves is more than a little nerve-racking!

The good news is that you don’t have to quit a full-time job to get the process started. You can do a lot to get started as a photographer while still having the security of a stable job. Then when you’ve gotten your business established, you can figure out when you’re ready to go into wedding photography full time.
