There are two basic ways of sending your material back out to the DV deck to record onto DV tape. We call such copies master copies because they come directly off of the editing station in the first-generation dub and are therefore of the highest quality. Actually, the term originated with analog recording systems and is less relevant for Firewire DV editors these days, because the master copy you record out through Firewire to DV tape can then be duplicated to other DV tapes with no generational loss.
