Open Collector, Open Drain and Tristate Gates

OBJECTIVE

In this chapter, we shall learn about open collector gates, open drain gates, quasi-bidirectional gates, and the use of an analog/digital switch in analog circuit and in tristate gates.

In Chapter 6, we learnt the different types of the transistor and MOSFET-based logic gates. In Chapter 7, we learnt that when a gate interfaces to the next stage, it has the voltage and current levels as per the output stage pull up circuit and next input stage impedance(s) and these levels change depending upon the number of gates interfaced.
