Introduction

Something that can be difficult to understand is what tools to use for certain situations and how all of the information fits together to form an investigation. There are a number of variables for answering this question including the type of investigation, what the goals of the investigation are, and the fact that there is more than one way to accomplish most things in an investigation. Over time an investigator develops an affinity for certain tools and techniques, and in time they develop their “go to” tool set.
