15 E-mail and the Internet
If, as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, then clearly it makes sense to use images as a medium for communication rather than just for artistic appreciation. Many pictures are used in this way already, telling the stories of family events, holidays and experiences enjoyed. Others are more aesthetic, but often still contain a less specific message that might say ‘look at this beautiful landscape’ rather than ‘here is little Jimmy in a field of horses’.
Previously, pictures were passed around principally by being handed over in person or sent by post; today, there is the option of electronic transfer by e-mail, or even of putting images on Web pages for the entire world to see. Both of these options ...
