Differences between Fades and Cross-Fades
Both fades and cross-fades are very useful in that they allow us to very quickly and easily make sure that the beginning and end of any audio regions are smooth, with no unexpected glitches. The biggest difference between them is purely a functional one. If there are no regions overlapping on the same track, then you should use regular fades. If your aim is to have one region gradually fade into another, and they are on the same track, then a cross-fade would be used.
