8.1 Interrelations for strategic competence (proficiency)

“Thought development is determined by language i.e., by the linguistic tools of thought and by the sociocultural experience of the writer.” (Vygotsky,1986, p. 94).

This chapter discusses meta-level linkages from the first three research questions, connecting the quantitative findings with the qualitative findings, to answer Research Question 4. A macro-conceptual, theoretical understanding of the mixed methods results is presented through tables, with an explanation beneath each table. Theory and practice related to assessment and instruction are considered, and the critical connection between empirical research and L2 writing instruction is made.
