Suffocating a Network

After so much effort invested in building networks, why now choose to suffocate one? Think of the locksmith teaching a burglar to rob premises he has just secured. If this test works, it shows the locksmith understands his design well. Likewise, starting with the essentials of good networks as we have laid them out and then predicting successfully how to unlock (or suffocate) one is some kind of validation for our theories about networks. Fortunately, we have no need to cripple a real network. That has already been done for us. We are therefore able to inspect the remains to see if it has been done in the way we would have predicted.
