In Learning and Development circles return on investment (ROI) is something that is quite often discussed in whispers in corridors, wide eyed, and with increasing amounts of anxiety. ROI involves formulas and some kind of financial analysis, and results in the learning practitioner developing the look of the condemned as they try to prove that something as intangible as changes in behavior, skills development, or knowledge can be measured and plotted on a graph. Recent research found “that just 35 percent of organizations measure the business results of any learning programs, and only 15 percent measure return on investment.” (Ho, 2016)
