Install Thoughtware in the Organization
Variability kills flow and perhaps the most devastating form of variability is self-imposed (more on this later). Even according to Deming, self-imposed variability, management variability, must be tackled first. It is directly related to the assumptions we have and the rules we make and enforce in our system. Our inability to adapt or evolve those assumptions and rules to the circumstances of the New Normal is a recipe for increasing management variability. While the new environment is imposed on the organization, the organization can decide how it operates and responds to it.
