Chapter 2 Demand/Supply Integration
In this chapter, we will build on the discussion of Integration from Chapter 1 and place it in the specific context of Demand/Supply Integration. In Chapter 1, we discussed the mechanisms for achieving integration: Organizational structure, integrative processes, and organizational culture. The details of the integrative processes were deferred and will now be addressed here. This chapter will explore the essence of DSI, distinguish it from Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), articulate from a strategic perspective what it is designed to accomplish, describe some typical aberrations from the “ideal state” of practice, and describe some characteristics of successful DSI implementations.
