Preface
This book is born of frustration. Early in our first data warehouse deliverable, we tried to deliver a Market Basket Analysis application. We also tried to deliver Type 2 time variant data. Neither effort succeeded. Since then, I continued to work on those two failed deliverables. First, I researched the root cause of our failures. Then, I designed solutions that resolved the root causes of the failure to deliver a Market Basket Analysis application and a time variant database design. Discovering that the Market Basket Analysis application and the time variant database design (both Type 1 and Type 2) fit together like a hand and glove was both lagniappe and serendipity.
