Stony Field, a suburban district whose students have always performed well on standardized tests, presents an example of the challenges of building a culture of productive data use. It has been difficult for district leaders to motivate some teachers to rigorously examine data and their own practices because they believe the current instructional model is working. The district has also faced pressure from parents to maintain high levels of performance.
