On the face of it, precise pattern-drafting can seem very mysterious and extremely complicated. Certainly, creating a custom-fit pattern, tailored to fit an individual's specific body shape and proportions while still allowing for style and practicality, can be a highly complex process; and many of the current computer-assisted design (CAD) programs in use by the clothing and costume industries seem only to add to the complexity. Anyone who has ever attempted to build a well-tailored garment, and struggled to get the fit exactly right, would probably agree that the biggest challenge in making a great garment is to create a proper fit.
