It has been argued in the literature that personality effects can be overshadowed by strong situational demands (Spector, 2011); that is, people are free to engage in behaviors consistent with their personalities only when the environment is not overly constraining (Cohen, 2016). For example, norms can either inhibit or reinforce an individual’s personality tendencies (Spector, 2011 ; Smithikrai, 2008).
