Beneficial useThe use to which a building may be put to generate an income stream capable of sustaining the building’s operation and upkeep in good order for the foreseeable future while maintaining the building’s cultural significance.

Conservation areaAn area designated by the local authority or Historic England for its architectural or historic interest within which permission must be sought before making alterations to a property, demolishing a building or removing trees.
