Give Kudos That Count
A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of the credit.
Have you ever tried to act surprised for a “surprise” birthday party? Difficult, right? Pretending to be thrilled about a recognition that routinely comes your way every month is equally difficult. Nor does that recognition continue to motivate. In fact, you may notice the recognition only when it stops coming and starts demotivating.
Let me explain: Recognizing employees for work well done improves overall performance, but not in the way you might think. Those winning the kudos don’t necessarily work harder—but those not recognized do.
