3.1 Introduction

This chapter presents data from a very simple, hypothetical clinical trial that will be used to illustrate many of the methods discussed throughout this book. First, through the use of very rudimentary case report forms (CRFs), you'll see how response data can be collected in various formats: dichotomous, categorical, or numeric.
