Some of the biggest questions you can ask yourself in life centre on values. What do you stand for? What's most important to you? What keeps you awake at night? What enables you to sleep peacefully? What do you really want?
Values bring energy and direction; they're at the core of what makes an individual tick. When people deeply understand their values, they can create a way of operating in the world that leads them to purpose and meaning. When people live according to their innermost values, they feel satisfied that they are being true to their identities, genuinely being who they are. By contrast, when people's values are not being met, for whatever reason, they feel uneasy.
Values can change over time, depending on your experiences. People often come to coaching at moments of transition, perhaps from one job to another, as well as from one cluster of values to a revised cluster.
In this chapter, you look at how you can enable your clients to clarify their core values. They then can make whatever adjustments are necessary to honour those values in their daily lives.
