Until now, I've concentrated on the technical aspects of choosing modes, features, and options on the EOS 50D. But the technical aspects of using the camera are only half the story. The true fun and satisfaction of using the 50D is combining the camera's extensive creative control with your photographic vision.

In this chapter, we complete the picture by combining both the technical and creative aspects of shooting with the 50D. Of course, in the process of making an image, there isn't a point where you adjust all the settings, and then you suddenly switch into creative mode. Rather, making pictures is the unconscious blending of the two into a synergistic and fluid process. Once in a while, a technical or creative glitch pops up to interrupt the flow, but those glitches are simply opportunities to learn.

In this chapter, I talk about using the 50D for everyday shooting, showing what it can do, and what you can expect as you shoot with it. The areas that I cover are some of the most common photographic scenes and subjects. And while your photography may concentrate on an area that isn't covered in this chapter, the techniques presented here have broad applicability to many shooting specialties. As you read, think about how you can apply these techniques creatively to other situations.
