1 Introduction
Peace or a Pipe Dream?
Businesses around the world have begun putting peace-focused thinking into practice at the local level. This chapter looks at scholarly evidence to explain why. However, the chapter also challenges us to expand peace-focused thinking to include large-scale, heavy industry. After justifying the rationale for this book, the introduction provides an overview of the aims and direction of the book; forecasts conclusions; and positions the reader to think creatively about practical and ‘do-able’ peace-building activities in the natural resources industries.
