Foreword

I was fortunate to meet George Baffour in November 2017 in Kumasi, Ghana, where I delivered the 10th R. P. Baffour Memorial Lectures, at which event George was present, representing the family of Dr. R. P. Baffour, his grandfather. The late Dr. Robert Patrick Baffour was a pioneering Ghanaian engineer who was noted for having been the first Chairman of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission and first Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), my alma mater. For his public and social services in the Gold Coast (then a Crown colony of the British Empire), Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II conferred on him the appointment to an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) during her Coronation ...
