It was June 2011, just three months after the huge earthquake and tsunami in Japan that killed nearly twenty thousand people, devastating many communities. The full magnitude of loss was immeasurable.
I was due to teach in Tokyo, but frequent aftershocks meant my seminars were moved to Osaka to reduce risk of disruption.
