Chapter 6Case studies
The case studies examine eight successful housing schemes that meet a variety of housing needs in a wide variety of rural locations. Each illustrates a different approach to establishing the principle of development, and to design in a rural context. In each case, the relationship of the development to existing settlements and to the landscape are explored, with the intention that the resultant good practice can inform the approach to be taken in new rural development. Strategies that each design team used to present the schemes to the planning authorities are examined, and good practice is highlighted as examples of how they can be used to reassure decision-takers that good design has its place in and adjacent to the countryside. ...
