Every aspiring feature scribe longs to see his screenplay graduate to a high-profile spec sale. But how does it happen? As the myth goes, a chosen script hits the market, creates a great deal of buzz, and before you know it … Snatch! The deal is done, the writer is made and the market moves onto the next. At least, that’s how we’d like to think it happens. But the reality of today’s industry is that it rarely works that way. Gone are the fat years of the 1990s when specs were moving in the market at a rapid, sometimes head-spinning pace.
