When you are in Edit Mode, under the Mesh menu, Blender gives you many options of how to unwrap your 3D object into a 2D UV Map. The UV Smart Project option is a good one to get acclimated to the process. The steps are:
- In Edit Mode, switch to Face Select mode and press A to select all the faces:
- Under the Mesh menu, select UV Unwrap... and Smart UV Project:
- A menu option appears with settings. Keep the default options and hit OK:
