FILM'S PLACE IN A DIGITAL WORLD
When I first encountered digital cameras (less than one megapixel then) in the mid 1990s, film was an established leader; it took nearly a decade for the gear to rival high-end SLRs, but it happened. I think film faded a bit more quickly because of the cost of processing, lack of immediacy (how impatient we've all grown!) and environmental impact of chemicals used in a silver halide process.
