Appendix S Digital television broadcast systems
The three main digital television broadcasting systems being adopted around the world are listed below and in the table. See also Appendix I.
DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting)
The system was developed in Europe and based on MPEG-2 standards (see Appendix X). It has three main parts with a variety of possible picture formats:
• DVB-C: DVB framing, channel coding and modulation scheme for cable television systems (ETSI standard EN 300 429).
• DVB-S: System for digital satellite television (ETSI standard EN 300 421).
• DVB-T: System for digital terrestrial television using coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (COFDM) multiple-carrier transmission (ETSI standard EN 300 744).
