Appendix F Recommended seating plan
In general, the seating layout should have the front row not closer to the screen than two screen-widths, with the back row not more than six screen-widths away. Seats should preferably be kept within a wedge area of about 20 degrees from each side of the screen. This can be extended to 30 degrees for non-directional matt white surfaces. For more directional screen materials it is desirable to keep within 15 degrees.
Screen luminance and other viewing conditions are defined in standard SMPTE 196M (see Appendix U).
