Preface to the second edition
The past six years have seen continued development in all the technologies which we took as our original field and in preparing this fully revised edition we felt that its wide scope is better described as a Dictionary of Image Technology than by its previous title, Dictionary of Audio-visual Terms; in it, we have endeavoured to reflect both current practice and new proposals still being debated internationally.
As Editor I am grateful to all the members of the original committee who have contributed new material and to Stephen Lowe whose glossary in the BKSTS publication Understanding Video suggested several additions.
