Preface to the fourth edition
It is 18 years since the first edition of this dictionary appeared as the Dictionary of Audio-visual Terms and this new fourth edition has become the BKSTS Illustrated Dictionary of Moving Image Technology. The structure and content have changed to reflect the widening technological coverage and understanding needed by all those who work in or study the technical aspects of the moving image.
The content of this edition focuses on technologies relating directly to programme origination, production, distribution, transmission and display by whatever means, from the film set, computer graphics and multimedia to digital satellite broadcasting, cinema projection and DVDs.
