BIM within a project can be an agent for cohesion and collaboration. Collaboration can have almost opposite meanings. The Oxford English Dictionary gives its meaning as ‘work jointly with’ or ‘co-operate traitorously with an enemy’. While the latter is a little extreme it does contain a mixture of elements often found in project teams. There are champions of BIM and the sceptics, whose outlook injects resistance at best and can introduce serious information quality problems at worst. Their input needs to be managed carefully.
