The political landscape
Mainstream practice in the UK is beginning to enjoy a level of evangelism and enthusiasm for BIM that has been extant in the USA for some time. America benefits from a larger scale of market, larger projects and vast public procurement agencies that the UK does not. As early as July 2009 the State of Wisconsin declared all new building with a capital value in excess of $5m should ‘begin their A/E design processes with BIM and 3D software’. The stimulus for this came from an earlier Executive Order which required state agencies to conform to higher environmental and energy efficiency standards.
